About Sept. or Oct.1954, when I was an M.P. stationed at camp Matsushima, I was to escort a military payroll to camp Sendai. Ten minutes before take-off a corporal working in the finance office offered to take my place because it was my day off. I told him, No thanks, I'm already dressed so I might as well go. He insisted and I gave in. I realize now at age 71 it was the luckiest day of my life. The helicopter crashed and all aboard were killed. I've been trying to remember the name of the corporal, but I can't. If any one has any info. on the incident, I would appreciate it. The pilot was W.O.J.G. Wayne seroy Penick(26), Corpus Christi, Tex., Col. Wayne Springer, Hettinger, No. Dakota, Lt. Col. Raymond Lee Johnson, assist. chief of staff G-3, former command 5th Cav. Div. and Cpt. Harold Leonard Martin(34), Sheffield, Ala. Aviation sect. 1X corp Hdq.
