: I was on a visit to Kerkrade in hollond a few years ago and saw what appeared to be an old control tower and some other buildings a few kilometers from Kerkrade. Can anyone tell me if there was an airfield there, its name and history, many thanks
There are 2 airfields near Kerkrade. The first one is Geilenkirchen
and its located at the german border near Brunssum. It is a old RAF base from 50's and nowadays it is the homebase of NATO E-3A's. Another base is Maastrich Aachen Airport. The old name was Vliegveld Beek and is located 10 km north of Maastricht. It is now a civil airfield. It was build by the americans in WWII.
